New power quality monitoring and compliance reporting software available

24 August 2005 Test & Measurement Products & Solutions Agriculture (Industry)

In the new electricity regulatory environment, it is essential for industrial electricity consumers and their suppliers to have visibility of the quality of electrical power. Power quality information is a key input to the ongoing management of power quality and, for consumers in particular, to the future planning and assurance of the value of consumer electricity purchases.

CT Lab, a Stellenbosch-based developer of power quality monitoring instrumentation, software and services, has released its new PQRM software to address the market need for key power quality monitoring information. The design objective for the software was to provide a practical power quality information tool for technologists and engineers in the electricity consumer and supply industries. The PQRM product offers NRS 048 assessment reports in various export formats.

Reports include: voltage unbalance compliance; flicker compliance; power frequency compliance; voltage magnitude compliance; dip and swell assessment; Individual harmonic assessment; instrument and measurement compliance; supply reliability assessment.

The PQRM product provides access to recorded information via an integrated graphical user interface that assists users to make the most of the functionality offered by CT Lab's established range of power quality recorders (Impedograph, Vectograph and Provograph). The ImpedoGraph is a versatile 3-phase power quality monitoring instrument specifically designed to comply with the latest local and international instrumentation standards. It is suitable for both fixed installation and portable (investigative measurements) applications.

Through partnering with CT Lab a range of services becomes available to the customer. These include:

* Assistance with the planning and implementation of power quality monitoring initiatives, ranging from electricity customers applications to wide scale utility monitoring programmes.

* Monitoring system installation design;

* Planning of data communication solutions to integrate data transfer to a central database;

* System commissioning and data validation services;

* Investigation services and reporting to verify compliance;

* training in power quality monitoring, engineering assistance and product support in the form of training courses, a technical helpdesk and other appropriate means.
