32-channel DACs feature integrated offset and gain calibration

24 August 2005 Analogue, Mixed Signal, LSI

Maxim has introduced what it claims are the world's most highly integrated digital-to-analog converters (DACs), the only monolithic (single silicon chip), 16-bit, 32-channel devices with offset and gain calibration. The MAX5762-MAX5765 (16-bit) and MAX5773/4/5 (14-bit), are claimed to be the most precise and most compact 32-channel DACs that integrate a programmable offset and gain calibration algorithm. The DACs reduce system cost and space requirements by eliminating the need for external offset and gain correction circuitry, output amplifiers, filters, or capacitors. At the 16-bit level, they guarantee integral non-linearity of 0,012% FSR (max), and differential nonlinearity of less than 1 LSB. Each of the four output voltage ranges (0 to +5 V, 0 to +10 V, -2,5 V to +7,5 V, and ±5 V) maintains linearity to within 200 mV of rails. Packaged in a 10 x 10 mm 68-pin TQFN or 12 x 12 mm 64-pin TQFN, the small footprint and superior linearity make them well-suited for industrial applications, including automatic test equipment, fibre-optics, and data acquisition.
