Silicone rubber keypads are longer-lasting

22 November 2000 Switches, Relays & Keypads

Tech Rubber has introduced two coating processes to prolong the silk-screening on its keypads.

Locally distributed by Hillcor Holdings, the company says that although Tech Rubber's standard method of heat treatment using special developed inks will give long life to the screen (keypads are tested to one million operations) in certain high traffic applications they identified the need to improve this high specification.

Coating 2306 is Tech Rubber's standard coating which should extend the life at least by twice, while coating QS-1.PU is a specially developed polyurethane-based process which will increase the life 3-4 times.

Hillcor Holdings adds that high usage keys can be individually treated for longer life.

The normal abrasion test is: one cycle = 16 cm; test cycle = 40 cycles; pressure = 170 g. The test equipment used is the Norman Tool Abrasion Wear Tester and the test report is as per RCA.
