Innovative 'computer room' solution is simple and cost-effective

7 September 2005 Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services

The AdleRac brand has established a reputation for quality performance, reliability and durability, and is well-known in the ICT industry. The company's researchers have now introduced a completely new category of racking appliance.

The new racking solutions are able to offer the cocooned comfort and benefits of a computer room, but within a self-contained racking enclosure. According to the company, these units offer their servers complete security, surveillance and monitoring in a controlled environment.

Designed and built to customer specifications by AdleRac (which is a division of Falcon Electronics), these so-called 'Environmental Racks' provide an alternative solution to the traditional computer rooms that are often too large and expensive to accommodate the more compact servers currently in use.

Each unit comes complete with an advanced access control system, a security camera, fire extinguishers and full climate control. A modular design offers end-users greater flexibility in terms of network infrastructure while simultaneously saving space and costs.

Jerome Mentoor, AdleRac's general manager, advises that the Environmental Racks - as with every cabinet manufactured by the company - are built to exacting quality and design specifications.

"AdleRac has held SABS ISO 9001 certification for more than a decade and became the first company within this sector in South Africa, to conform to and obtain the more stringent ISO 9001:2000 certification," says Mentoor. "We will not compromise on quality in any aspect of our products and were therefore extremely selective in choosing products that meet our stringent criteria in terms of delivery, performance and durability, as well as after-sales service and maintenance."

Describing the Environmental Racks as a natural extension of the company's product range, Mentoor adds: "AdleRac has specialised in manufacturing standard-sized enclosures for computer equipment since the company's inception in 1991, as well as several customisable options - such as corporate branding on the rack's doors. Over the years, we have refined our product offering so as to keep pace with international trends while accommodating the changing needs of the local market."

"The significant reduction in the size of computer servers over this time prompted the notion of a rack that would emulate a mini computer room. The concept inspired us to develop our Environmental Rack, a product that we believe is the first genuine rack of its kind: our units are completely sealed when closed and incorporate only the best that current technology can offer," he concludes.

The company has been commissioned to build and install its Environmental Racks for several government departments and for corporates such as ABI and construction company Murray and Roberts.

Entirely black-owned and operated, AdleRac is a 'Proudly South African' company and boldly promotes this fact on every rack sold, whether for the local market or exported.

Understanding solder dross: causes and control strategies
Truth Electronic Manufacturing Editor's Choice Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services
Dross formation is an inevitable consequence of wave soldering. It occurs when molten solder comes into contact with oxygen, forming metal oxides that float on the surface of the solder bath. Over time, this oxidation byproduct accumulates and must be removed to maintain solder quality and process consistency.
