The main feature of Phoenix Contact's new 8-channel analog input module, is its ability to record temperature readings in a way that saves both money and space, claims the company.
The IB IL TEMP 4/8 RTD-PAC, which belongs to the company's Inline product family, also supports the two- and three-wire operation of sensors. In addition to nickel and platinum sensors such as Pt100, Pt500, Pt1000 and Ni1000, the module also supports sensors in the product series CU10, CU50, CU53 as well as KTY81 and KTY84. This makes it possible to configure each individual channel differently. The sensor type Pt10000 is especially suited to building automation. As an alternative to resistive temperature detectors, it is possible to connect and use linear resistors (potentiometers) up to 20 kΩ.
A diagnostics display on the module shows the module's correct bus system, as well as additional warning messages such as overflow or broken wires. Two options are available for data exchange with the controller: four inputs can be read at a time using process data (8-channel operation in 2x4 multiplex process) or, alternatively, inputs can be read out in an analog values object using an acyclic protocol (PCP). Measured values are always displayed using 16 bits.
With the supplied Shield Twin plug, the shielding of sensor cables can be easily and conveniently applied directly on the module. In addition to connector plugs with wire shielding (Shield Twin for two cables respectively), the product range also includes four labelling boxes, for two cables respectively.
