High performance thermal imager for predictive maintenance

5 October 2005 Test & Measurement

Fluke has added the Raytek ThermoView Ti30 Thermal Imager to its test and measurement product line. This thermal imager is specifically intended for infrared preventive and predictive maintenance (PPM) at industrial and large commercial property sites. Raytek designed the device as an affordable, fully radiometric thermal imager that expands the use of thermographic inspections to support preventive and predictive maintenance.

Hilton Preston, sales manager for distributor Comtest, says the Fluke Ti30 Thermal Imager offers everything needed for everyday imaging. "Users can obtain high quality thermal images with a simple 'click' of the trigger and then download the images and data into the companion InsideIR software for analysis and reporting. They can assign a unique name, preset emissivity and other values, assign alarm limits and add meaningful comments to each measurement location and then reload the data into the Ti30. Inspections can now be delegated to electricians and mechanics most familiar with the equipment. Users simply follow the on-camera, step-by-step routing instructions, then point, focus and create a new image."

"One of the biggest advantages of the Ti30 is the emissivity reading capability, which allows the user to enter the values back at the office onto a PC after taking the image on site, just by selecting that part of the image on the screen.

Emissivity indicates the ability of an object to emit infrared energy. Emissivity is determined by the material from which the object is constructed and its surface finish. Values can range from less than 0,1 for a highly reflective body such as polished metal, to 1,0 for an ideal black body.

"With the other low cost imagers out there, if you do not enter the emissivity reading of one particular substance at the time of taking the image and you only realise once you get it back to your desk that you have forgotten to enter it, you have to go back on site to take it," he adds.

The Fluke Ti30 Thermal Imager is designed for industrial use, with over five hours of continuous-use battery life and the capacity to store up to 100 images. It comes with all necessary accessories, unlimited-use InsideIR companion software, and two days of professional thermography training.
