RAD-Hard linear regulator delivers less than 0,4 V dropout at 3 A

22 November 2000 Power Electronics / Power Management

Omnirel, an International Rectifier company, offers the OMR9601SCK; a 3,3 to 2,5V ultra-low dropout linear regulator with 3 A capability. The device features a maximum dropout voltage of 0,4V at 3 A output and a 0,3 V dropout at 1 A output, as well as a remote shutdown pin for power sequencing and other control functions. Housed in a five-pin TO-258 (MO-78AA) package and supplied with integrated input and output capacitors, the OMR9601SCK is radiation-hardened to 1MRad (Si), and is screened to class K standards as outlined in MIL-PRF-38534.

The high-current regulators are used in commercial, scientific and military satellite power systems where point-of-load regulation is required. This includes DSPs, microcontrollers and microprocessors, as well as low-voltage logic circuits, which include FPGA systems.

While the device has been characterised per MIL-STD- 883, Method 1019, Condition A (high dose rate), it has also been fully tested and characterised under very low dose rate conditions.

Ratings are: Output current 3,5 A; Input voltage (Vin) +7,0 V; Lead temperature 300°C; Power dissipation, Tc=25°C; Ptot 19 W; Thermal resistance Rth 6,5°C/W; Operating temperature -55 to +125°C.
