High voltage Class D audio control IC also protects

A 200 V(out) control IC, developed specifically for Class D audio applications up to 500 W per channel, has been released by International Rectifier. The IRS20124S, in a 14-pin SOIC package, has integrated features such as adjustable dead-time generation and bi-directional over-current sensing to protect the amplifier system. Also, these features allow audio designers to simplify circuits and minimise component count for Class D audio amplifiers.

The internal, selectable dead-time generation circuit is thermally-compensated for stability, and is immune to noise and supply voltage fluctuations to help improve total harmonic distortion, or THD. The IC has built-in bi-directional current sensing and combined with an integrated shutdown function, protects the output MOSFETs when an over-current condition occurs, such as a short-circuited speaker wire.
