Dual N-channel high-side switch controller

22 November 2000 Power Electronics / Power Management

Linear Technology's LTC1982, a dual micropower switch controller in a SOT-23 package connects and disconnects loads from a low voltage power source while drawing very little supply current. It incorporates a pair of charge pump triplers to produce high side gate drive for logic level N-channel MOSFETs. A quiescent current is just 10 µA per gate once the gates are fully charged, and just 1 µA when in shutdown. The LTC1982 has an input voltage range of 1,8 to 5 V that permits using a single Li-Ion or multiple NiCd, NiMH or alkaline batteries. The LTC1982 is best suited for space-restricted, handheld applications. It is suited for hot swap applications or where power sequencing must be implemented in multipower environments. The LTC1982 also serves as a simple disconnect in boost DC/DC converter applications to protect against shorts due to the steering diode's direct connection between input and load.
