CeBit: Digital solutions for work and life
16 November 2005
News
At CeBIT 2005, there were 13 exhibitors from South Africa at the show occupying 133 m² - an increase of 40% of exhibitor space over 2004 (2004: 95 m² occupied by 10 exhibitors). The majority of these companies exhibited at the South African National Pavilion, managed and financially sponsored by the dti (the Department of Trade and Industry).
CeBIT still lays claim to being the world's largest and most important tradeshow serving the IT and telecommunications industry. 6246 exhibitors from 68 nations had gathered in Hannover in 2005 (3280 of them from outside Germany) - occupying 308 000 square metres of floor space.
Visitors came from 120 countries, with 128 500 from outside Germany - 31 200 of them from Asia alone. More than 10 000 journalists reported on this trade fair. Not only were ICT products and solutions in the spotlight at CeBIT, but also international networking and information-sharing. More than 300 000 visitors used the tradeshow primarily for educational purposes or to exchange information.
CeBit 2006 will take place in Hannover, Germany, 9-15 March, 2006, with 30 exhibition halls.
Note that the dti under its Export Marketing Incentive Assistance scheme (EMIA), will financially assist companies wishing to participate in overseas exhibitions. It is still in the process of making a decision as whether to participate in CeBIT 2006 by means of a South African National Pavilion. Assistance is granted to individual exporters to exhibit products at recognised exhibitions abroad where TISA (Trade Investment South Africa) does not provide for a national pavilion.
Application forms to exhibit at CeBIT 2006 are available from the Johannesburg office of The Southern African-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, contact Annette Kölsch, [email protected], +27 (0)11 486 2775. For information on dti sponsorship through EMIA see website at www.thedti.gov.za, +27 (0)11 486 2775.
