Outdoor cabinets are used for the installation of WAN infrastructures, eg, mobile transmission stations, trunk radio networks, wireless local loop and 'last mile', in applications such as meteorological sector for weather stations and in the area of traffic surveillance.
For these and similar applications, Schroff offers two standardised outdoor cabinets: Modular and Unibody. They protect the installed components from wind, rain, heat, cold and vandalism. Flexible assembly possibilities are possible with 19" technology, ETSI or other non-standard accessories. With the EMC version, rubber seals or foam seals, which are combined with a metallic mesh, provide guaranteed protection to IP55. The seals can be replaced if they are damaged.
The cabinets are shock and vibration tested to IEC 68-2-6 and -27, plus ETS 300 019 for safety during earthquakes. Climate control is tested to IEC 68-2-1, -2, -14.
With the double wall-construction of these cabinet versions a certain amount of heat can be dissipated without additional cooling components (ie, fans, heat exchangers). The hinged roof construction allows easy assembly, and cabling of additional cooling components can be integrated to increase the flow of cool air through the double walls if required.
This 'Modular' version consists of a frame made from aluminium extrusions. The welded frames at the top and bottom are screwed together with vertical elements. Through the extrusion's profile, an ideal combination of functionality, stability and low weight is achieved. The covers can be removed completely from the outside, but for security reasons only after the cabinet doors have been opened. The doors can be fitted to the customer's requirements, at the front, back or at the side.
The 'Unibody' version does not have a framework made from aluminium extrusions, but consists of a C-shaped frame with a door to the front and is therefore more competitively priced. Both cabinet versions are available as single or double door versions.
Schroff also integrates basic elements of electronic packaging, like cabling, climate control, power supplies or further EMC protection into the outdoor cabinets and provides a service to customers from specification.

Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services
There is well documented historical proof that post-reflow circuit assemblies, when subjected to harsh environments, are particularly vulnerable to failure mechanisms, but modern electronic assemblies are far more susceptible to this phenomenon.

Read more...Understanding solder dross: causes and control strategies Truth Electronic Manufacturing
Editor's Choice Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services
Dross formation is an inevitable consequence of wave soldering. It occurs when molten solder comes into contact with oxygen, forming metal oxides that float on the surface of the solder bath. Over time, this oxidation byproduct accumulates and must be removed to maintain solder quality and process consistency.

Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services
With the move to Pb-free soldering, most of the attention has been paid to reflow temperatures, component compatibility, and reliability concerns, but the implications for inspection, particularly X-ray inspection, are equally important and often underestimated.
