Industry's first firmware-programmable USB2.0 NAND controller

22 February 2006 DSP, Micros & Memory

Said to be the industry's first firmware-programmable USB2.0 high speed NAND flash controller, Cypress Semiconductor's EZ-USB NX2LP-Flex USB controller, allows manufacturers to add value to commodity USB 'thumbdrives,' the most common application for NAND Flash, by including features such as fingerprint sensors, video-over-USB and others.

Cypress's EZ-USB LP family of high speed USB controllers have low dynamic and standby power consumption. The new controller also enables consumer electronics products such as DVB/PCTV cards, GPS receivers, and wireless presenters to add NAND flash for their storage needs.

Besides complete programmability, another major benefit of EZ-USB NX2LP-Flex is the elimination of EEPROM, normally required in a firmware-based design for code storage. EEPROM elimination results in lower component cost, reduced power, board space savings, and a simplified design process.
