Switching power supplies designed for efficiency

22 March 2006 Power Electronics / Power Management

Mean Well has added two new product series to its AC/DC product line: AS-120P, a 120 W power adaptor, and the ASP-150, a 150 W open-frame type switching power supply.

Featuring low 'no-load power consumption' and built-in active PFC function, these two series are designed with keeping energy-saving concerns in mind - critical now to consumer electronic applications. Due to the leading-edge ZCS/ZVS technology, the efficiency of the AS-120P and ASP-150 are as high as 90% and hence can provide 120 W/150 W by only free air convection.

The AS-120P equips with an IEC320-C14 3-pole AC inlet as the standard and has a variety of options for either AC inlet or DC output plugs. With short circuit, overload, over-voltage, and over temperature protections and the fully enclosed plastic case, AS-120P is well-suited for LCD TV, LCD monitor, notebook PC, and IT-related applications. On the other hand, ASP-150 mainly targets general industrial use with space constraint, since its 28,5 mm low profile can fit in any 1U application.

No load power consumption is less than 0,75 W at 240 V a.c. (<1 W for ASP-150). Dimensions are 16,7 x 6,7 x 3,5 cm (AS-120P), and 16,9 x 6,1 x 2,9 cm (ASP-150).
