Conformal coating test said to be fast and cost-effective

Zestron has introduced what it claims is a fast and cost-effective method for testing conformal coating. The Coating Reliability Test (CoRe Test) is specially aimed at the development phase of the PCB production.
Prior to its debut, conformal coating testing has been time consuming and expensive at this stage. While previous test methods took up to six months, the CoRe Test can be completed in less than 10 hours, according to the company, which offers a significant advantage compared to the lifetime test.
Based on the 'water stress' method, the CoRe Test is a point-of-weakness analysis test that simulates an electronic assembly's maximum lifetime exposure. The test is designed to detect defects in coating layers and insufficient adhesion of coating, which may lead to electrochemical migration, delamination of coating and leakage currents.
