Norwe has expanded its innovative range of EFD-SMD2 coilformers with new surface mount coilformers in low-profile. These coilformers are fitted with U-shaped terminals. The two sides of the terminal allow automatic binding-on and soldering of the wires, leaving the PCB-side of the terminal free from tin. Automatic placing of the coilformer and the ferrites is possible by using a snap-on cap. This cap is spring-loaded and keeps the ferrites and coilformer together.
In the company's EE/M-series, a new coilformer version with 13 solder-pins and with the wire guidance significantly improved, is now available, in addition to the existing two versions with 12 and 13 solder-pins. The new coilformer is fitted with straight pins. Binding-on of the wires is radial. The terminal strips feature 'noses' that provide tension-relief and stand-offs which allow clean soldering of the wires and of the coilformers onto the PCB.
Glueing methods are usually used to connect and secure the ferrite cores to coilformers. Glues, such as Araldite, require the ferrite cores to be kept under constant pressure until the glue has hardened. A more advantageous and quicker method is by using SMD-Snap-on caps from Norwe. The spring-action Snap-on Cap allows quick assembly of the coilformers and the cores in their correct positioning. The caps have openings at the sides which allows additional glueing. They have a smooth top and can be used for pick-and-place operations.
