Garmin sponsors epic African adventure

Garmin has announced that it is a sponsor of the most innovative cultural mission in recent years - the Timbuktu to Table Mountain Expedition. The odyssey is part of the South Africa-Mali project, a collaboration between several parties, including Nepad and the presidents of South Africa and Mali, for the restoration of historic and ancient scrolls in Timbuktu.

A vast collection of manuscripts has been found in the libraries of Timbuktu, dating from as far back as the 12th century up to the present day, in a variety of languages.

As part of their journey across the African continent, the Expedition team will be working to help raise awareness of the incredible history of the town and the manuscripts, in an effort to assist with the conservation of and repairs to the documents.
