Strong growth for WLAN modules

17 May 2006 News

With its front-end modules based on LTCC technology (low-temperature co-fired ceramics) Epcos has tapped into the fast-growing market for WLAN applications. In 2004, Epcos began producing complete front-end modules for WLAN applications. In the meantime, sales of these modules have been climbing rapidly from month to month, according to the company. Now Epcos reports that it has won a big-name manufacturer of processors for personal computers as a new key account. Over the next two years, Epcos expects the resultant business to generate extra sales in a significant double-digit million euro range.

Besides the classic WLAN applications for PCs and notebooks, the greatest growth impulses are increasingly to be found in mobile communication devices, MP3-players or game consoles. And customer demands concerning miniaturisation and increased functionality are especially high, says the manufacturer. The WLAN modules from Epcos, including integrated power amplifiers, measure just 4,5 x 3,2 x 1,4 mm and support the most widespread WLAN standards: 802.11 a, b and g.
