Cooperation agreement to market PMR TETRA systems
31 May 2006
News
EADS Secure Networks and the South African company Integcomm have entered into an exclusive cooperation agreement for the development and supply of professional mobile radio (PMR) TETRA networks to customers in South Africa and other African countries.
The objective of the agreement is to design, supply and install secure turnkey communication networks to provide solutions to meet the demanding requirements of users in sectors such as the police, public safety, defence, municipalities, airports, and industry.
TETRA is the acronym for terrestrial trunked radio which comprises a suite of open digital trunked radio standards. The open standard allows equipment from multiple vendors to be compatible and interoperable with each other, allows them to operate on the same network but still allows virtual private group communications. The technology was specifically designed to meet with the needs of users in the public safety, security and emergency services that require fast call set-up and a high grade of reliability. Privacy and secure communications is ensured through measures such as mutual authentication between the network and user equipment as well as TDMA digital technology.
