Power pack for the home/small business user promises long backup time

31 May 2006 Power Electronics / Power Management

Sinetech has launched a 'Home UPS' standby system. Available in a variety of configurations to suit the needs of the home user, retail or small business application, it provides an AC power back-up capability for up to 8 hours at power levels from 1 kVA up to 3 kVA.

With the increasing likelihood of extended power failures to various areas around the country, the ability to have a resource that supplies clean, true sine wave power is a real bonus, notes the company. For the home, holiday or farm user, the UPS system provides a resource to power a number of home appliances where continuous power is important, eg, lighting, fridges, deep-freezers, etc, and the user has the confidence that should a supply blackout occur, power will be available for at least 3-8 hours until power is restored, eg, security systems and TVs.

For the retail or small business/factory, devices like security electronics and surveillance systems, motor-driven gate enclosed secured areas, data management factory control systems, process control of gas-fired systems, etc, the system can ensure business peace-of-mind and reduce worries about the impact of power failures.

An external battery pack in a static battery stand (also supplied by Sinetech) is required for supporting the power resource when normal power fails and, depending upon a customer's requirement, can be a single battery pack to support 1-4 hours with up to 5-8 hours of back-up (depending on the battery capacity used). An external battery pack in a mobile cabinet is also available to support the power management unit when normal power fails. Thus, a wide range of power back-up configurations is possible to suit individual needs.

The built-in 5-stage 'intelligent' charger can automatically charge basically any type of battery without the risk of overcharge, according to the company. This means that for areas that have regular power blackouts intermittently, the unit will rapidly and efficiently recharge the battery pack to full power as soon as utility power is restored. This ensures that at the next occurrence of a power failure, full AC power back-up is available for those essential household and small business needs.

Some notable key features include: parameter pre-settable; DC start and automatic self-diagnostic function; programmable charge setting; automatic change over to back-up power; high efficiency design; low heat dissipation; designed for harsh environments; wall mountable; maintenance-free and environmentally friendly; guaranteed for one year.
