Data centre power supply guaranteed with modular UPS system

31 May 2006 Power Electronics / Power Management

The availability of systems and the reliability of data centres are a deciding factor for the efficiency and productivity of business processes. Rittal claims its UPS system power modular concept (PMC) is a special solution to meet the demand for the highest possible level of safety, redundancy and scalability. The UPS modules are offered in a single-phase and three-phase design - depending on the power output requirement.

The range up to 6 kVA is covered for single-phase applications. The PMC offers power outputs up to 120 kVA for three-phase applications with a maximum of three modules per rack (each with 10, 20, 30 or 40 kVA). They all meet the requirements for UPS classification according to the IEC 62 040-3 and VDE 0558 Part 530 standards, allows this Rittal UPS to bear the highest classification code VFI-SS-111.

The modular design concept minimises the initial investment for first installations, according to the company, since the UPS power supply capacity can be expanded if necessary during operation. This avoids the purchase of expensive overcapacity in the start-up phase and avoids replacement expenses incurred when an existing UPS needs to be replaced by a more powerful version.
