Schroff has extended its range of CompactPCI plug-in systems for horizontal board assembly.
Apart from the systems in 1, 2 and 3U there is now a 4U system. These space-saving systems are particularly suitable for applications in telecom, test and measurement technology and automation sectors.
The CompactPCI system contains a continuous monolithic backplane for 8 x 6 U standard CompactPCI boards with an integrated, 3U wide, area for the power backplane. There are four connection possibilities on the power backplane, two are designated for the installation of 19" hotswappable CompactPCI power supplies, which can be operated either parallel or redundantly; if required two additional power supplies can be fitted. Alternatively, the area below the power supplies can be used for the assembly of further components, such as hard disks, etc.
In a 4U system there is room for eight horizontal 160 mm deep boards. The system slot is located at the bottom left, which allows it to use double width (8 HP) CPUs. Additionally, there is space in the rear area for horizontal 80 mm deep rear I/O boards with IEEE guide rails inclusive of ESD clips. On the left side of the system there is an integrated hotswappable cooling unit with four low-noise fans. The chassis is perforated to give a 75% open area to ensure extremely good air flow for cooling. As an option, three further fans can be installed.
The 4U systems with horizontal board assembly save not only on costs, but also 3U of system assembly height. All CompactPCI plug-in systems of this series are powder coated black (RAL 9005).
