IP-based test, measurement, control and automation

Eagle Technology has introduced a new range of Ethernet IP-based MicroDAQ products. Complemented by its new EDRE Network Server extension package, the company says that its range of IP products usher in a new era of flexibility and connectivity for data acquisition, automation and control applications.

Currently, Eagle Technology's IP product range includes digital I/O models, with high speed analog streaming units becoming available in the near future.

MicroDAQ

The Ethernet MicroDAQ range of products allows remote process monitoring, automation and control, with multiple computers able to monitor and interact with a single Ethernet MicroDAQ simultaneously over existing IP networks. These units are fully compatible, hardware and software, with the USB and serial MicroDAQs. Also no knowledge of network programming is necessary to make use of this technology. Previously-developed software can seamlessly run on these devices by upgrading the existing EDRE API. The EDR Enhanced Software Tools also includes WaveView for Windows which is a feature rich software package to enable one to immediately begin using the Ethernet MicroDAQ. Easily configurable with an IP address, the company says that its IP-based products can be configured in seconds.

IP network functionality

The new EDRE Network Server function is available free of charge for all EDRE-supported Eagle data acquisition products. This new application module allows users to connect to, read from and write to any EDRE supported product connected to any computer on the network. For example, says Eagle, a PCI-730 card, Serial MicroDAQ, USB MicroDAQ or PC104-30F can all be accessed and used over an IP network as if though they were installed in one's own computer.

With these flexible product features, it is possible to have a large amount of distributed I/O in the plant, on a production line or even at several different production facilities, and yet be able to control and record the entire process in one central location. It can allow floor managers to monitor processes efficiency with a handheld PDA or similar device connected to a wireless network, giving access to critical information no matter where.
