Reference design for efficient 60 W power adapters

ON Semiconductor's 5th GreenPoint reference design is intended for 60 W power adapters used to power LCD TVs and monitors, notebooks and other consumer products. This reference design addresses the sometimes tedious design challenges inherent in meeting both standby and active mode energy efficiency regulations. It addresses all functional blocks of the power adapter and achieves low standby power and compliance with CEC, COC and Energy Star requirements. It is 88% efficient and further conserves energy in standby mode, consuming less than 250 mW. The enabling device for this reference design is the NCP1337, an enhanced PWM current-mode controller. It combines a true current-mode modulator and a demagnetisation detector. This ensures full borderline/critical conduction mode in any load/line. Frequency is internally limited to 130 kHz to facilitate EMI compliance. The NCP1337 is for any power supply where efficiency and low EMI signature are needed. It comes in SOIC-7 and PDIP-7 packages.
