Often found to be a stumbling block, 'data communications' has limitations on both movement and distance. Developments in mobile and fixed wireless systems have now given users the opportunity to communicate in the same fashion as a cellular phone, and now ideally suitable for industrial applications.

Limitations are also no longer an issue as there are various frequencies available that are suited to different distances and applications. These include UHF, VHF, 2,4 GHz, 1,9 GHz Dect, 900 MHz GSM amongst others.
