Frontier Silicon's Chorus 2 FS1020 is a new advanced system-on-chip IC intended for the next generation of DAB digital radio-based products. The programmable DAB baseband receiver provides significant space, cost and power savings for typical radio or mobile handheld devices. Its key benefit is the level of integration - providing up to 40% board space savings. It has 640 KB of integrated memory, enabling it to run value-added features without requiring external memory. Typical of the new products that it will enable are DAB radios merged with other audio functionality - such as combined DAB/FM/MP3/WMA/AAC digital music players, DAB radios with USB 2.0 OTG connectivity for high speed file transfer and firmware upgrade, Internet radios, digital music servers and jukeboxes, and multimedia-enhanced PDAs. The receiver covers a number of physical layer standards, particularly those using COFDM modulation. Incorporated on-chip are: a switched mode power supply to eliminate the need for external regulators, power-on-reset, digital clock (DCXO) and integrated memory. All this provides full ensemble 1,8 Mbps decoding in a Eureka-147 DAB receiver, in a package measuring 13 x 13 mm; 1,7 mm high.
