AnalogicTech’s AAT1142 is a voltagescaling step-down converter for portable applications. Supplying up to 800 mA output current, the device is the first voltage-scaling step-down converter to offer dynamic voltage management through both a two-wire I²C interface and the company’s patented single-wire simple serial control (S²Cwire) digital interface.
Most mid- to high-end portable devices available today incorporate I²C, so they can easily take advantage of the power efficiencies of voltage scaling. More cost-sensitive devices, however, simply cannot afford the hardware and firmware overhead associated with implementing I²C. Through its S²Cwire interface, the AAT1142 gives designers the ability to bring the power savings of voltage scaling to virtually any portable system, says the company.
The AAT1142 provides dynamic voltage management in programmable steps from as low as 0,6 V up to 2,0 V with 50 mV resolution. The converter delivers up to 800 mA output current over a wide 2,7 V to 5,5 V input range with up to 93% efficiency.
Dynamic voltage management allows a host system to quickly adjust the AAT1142 output voltage on-the-fly to track microprocessor idle-active states. This providing high power to the processor only when needed, saving battery life. Operating at a 2 MHz switching frequency, system footprint can be smaller due to the use of a small, external inductor and small capacitors.
The converter also features over-temperature and short-circuit protection circuits as well as internal soft start and 100% duty cycle low-dropout operation.
The AAT1142 comes in a Pb-free, 3 x 3 mm, low-profile, 12-pin TDFN package or a Pb-free, 12-pin TSOPJW package. It is specified over -40 to 85°C.
