On-line recruitment solution provider CareerJunction has secured its server room and 30 computer workstations against mains power failures by upgrading its existing UPS (uninterruptible power supply) with extended battery back-up at its Cape Town headquarters. The solution was designed, supplied, installed and commissioned by the power division of the Square One Solutions Group (www.sq1.co.za).
Power division account manager Ivor Williams said that the general uncertainty over the stability of power supply in the Western Cape and regular black-outs caused by load-shedding in recent months had led to demand for UPS solutions with seriously extended battery back-up.
"An 8-hour battery back-up is unusual but ideally meets the specialised needs of CareerJunction because a solution incorporating a standby diesel generator is not appropriate. We are also designing solutions with extended battery back-up of four to five hours for a number of companies operating in the distribution and medical fields."
The CareerJunction UPS solution comprises a 20 kVA Square One UPS unit linked to four battery cabinets each containing 32 batteries. Each battery is rated at 105 amp-hours and they are interconnected in a square formation.
