Industrial class LCD display module offers high contrast and wide viewing angles

29 November 2006 Opto-Electronics

Hitachi Display Products Group has launched its new 2,2" (56 mm) TFT LCD display module, the TX06D57VM0AAA, for use in a wide range of applications requiring high performance displays. Unusually in this market segment, Hitachi is guaranteeing product availability for this module for at least three years in order to satisfy customers' long term product planning requirements incorporating the display into solutions including remote entry systems, industrial test and measurement devices, medical devices, ePOS and other handheld mobile devices.

Featuring Hitachi's advanced in-plane switching (IPS) technology, the new module offers viewing angles of up to 160° in any direction ensuring a bright and clear image in all usage conditions. Typical performance figures for the 240 x 320 pixel resolution, 1/4 VGA screen include a brightness of 220 cd/m² and a contrast ratio of 250:1.

The active matrix TFT module produces clear, sharp images and graphics and operates in a transmissive mode, with a colour palette of 262 000 colours. Despite a compact size (39,8 x 56,1 x 2,7 mm (WxHxD)) and weight of just 12,6 g, the TX06D57VM0AAA offers industrial levels of quality and operates in temperatures ranging from -20 to 70°C.

From a design perspective, the LED backlight, comprising four LEDs connected in serial, eliminates the need for a high voltage inverter.
