Digital-Logic's new Microspace MSM800SEV is a robust CPU board in the PC/104 format and is based on the AMD Geode LX800 processor, an x86-based chip that has been specially designed for embedded and mobile applications. The new processor runs at 500 MHz and is said to provide performance equivalent to that of an 800 MHz processor. It does not require a fan, only consumes about 1,6 W (CPU) and provides an integrated 2D graphic chip with an analog and a digital output.
The MSM800SEV CPU board provides common standard PC interfaces for a PS/2 keyboard and mouse, hard disk, floppy disk and printer. The two serial interfaces are available as V24/RS232C. In addition, this AC97-compatible board has a stereo line output as well as headphone and microphone connectors. State-of-the-art features such as four USB V2.0 ports, graphics, a 100/10Base-T-Ethernet port and the possibility of expandable functions using PC/104-Plus (ISA and PCI) ensure an almost unlimited range of applications.
The video controller that is integrated in the Geode processor supports resolutions ranging from quarter VGA with a minimum of 320 x 240 up to 1600 x 1200 pixels. The video memory, with a maximum of 32 MB, is UMA (unified memory architecture) - shared with the main memory with up to 1 GB. For optional assembly with solid-state memories, a CompactFlash type I/II slot can be integrated. As further options we have a Cable Kit, and also a FP to DVI-D and an FP to LVDS adapter. The CPU board is compatible with every standard Pentium PC and runs all common operating systems, such as Windows XP, QNX, Linux, etc.
The embedded computer requires a 5 V power supply. Designed for low power consumption (depending on the peripherals, typical consumption is 5 to 10 W), it operates within the standard temperature range of -25 to 70°C. If desired, it is also available for the extended temperature range of -40 to 85°C.
