Mean Well introduced two more product series for LED lighting purposes. The CLG-60 and PLN-60 series are 60 W AC/DC enclosed type switching power supplies with active PFC function.
These limited power sources comply with UL 1310 class 2 that under any situation will limit the output power to under 100 VA or 5 A. This significantly reduces the hazardous conditions for LED lighting systems. The high IP level design (IP67 for CLG-60 series and IP64 for PLN-60 series) can protect the electronic components against dust and moisture, making them suitable for indoor or outdoor locations. The CLG-60 series is totally waterproof and can even be immersed in the water up to 1 metre.
The simplified single-stage PFC topology, achieves the required high power factor economically. Efficiency of CLG-60 and PLN-60 is as high as 88% and so can operate between -30 to 70°C by only free air convection. Standard functions include short circuit, over-load, over-voltage, and over-temperature protection. The CLG-60 is fully glued internally and has a higher IP level. It is intended for harsh operating conditions and uses an aluminium case as the enclosure for enhanced mechanical strength. The PLN-60 series with adjustable output voltage/current level uses a fully enclosed plastic case.
Typical applications for these new Class 2 power units include moving signs and backlighting, LED-based decorative/architectural lighting, LED stage and theatre lighting, and LED electronic displays.
