Test & Measurement

New ergonomic and specifically-designed multimeters available

24 January 2007 Test & Measurement

Comtest has launched a family of four new true-rms Fluke digital multimeters (DMMs) to the South African market, each designed to meet the specific needs of various users.

The Fluke 117 is an electricians' multimeter with non-contact voltage detection, while the Fluke 116 includes temperature and microamps measurement capability for heating, ventilation and airconditioning (HVAC) engineers. The 115 has extra functions for field service testing and industrial applications, while the 114 is a straightforward electrical troubleshooting tool for residential and commercial applications. The compact instruments are ergonomically designed for one-handed operation and feature a 30% larger backlit display with easy-to-read digits. All four models are CAT III 600 V safety-rated.

117 electrician's multimeter with non-contact voltage: designed for electricians working in commercial and noncommercial premises (like hospitals and schools), the 117 features non-contact voltage detection, enabling faster safer measurement and safely senses the presence of AC voltage (eliminating the need to carry another tool) and visually indicates proper grounding. Its Auto-V automatic volts detection function eliminates guesswork by determining AC/DC voltage, and a new low impedance input function helps prevent false readings due to ghost (stray) voltage.

116 multimeter with temperature and microamps: the 116 is specifically designed for heating, ventilation and airconditioning (HVAC) engineers. It includes temperature measurement and microamp current for troubleshooting HVAC problems. It has a low impedance input (LoZ) function, and other features for performing a wide range of tests such as measuring superheat and sub-cooling, troubleshooting the defrost control on a heat pump, and taking temperature surveys.

115 multimeter for field service testing: the 115 is designed as an everyday multimeter for technicians. It is optimised for electrical and electronic testing in field service, industrial, and applications where more than basic functionality (such as measurement of AC/DC current) simplifies working.

114 electrical multimeter: the 114 is designed for electrical troubleshooting and straightforward 'go/no-go' testing in residential/commercial electrical testing. It has all the basic functions plus a special feature to prevent false readings caused by ghost voltages.

The Fluke 110 Series of multimeters come standard with a 9 V battery. They are compact: 167 x 84 x 46 mm and weigh 0,55 kg.
