Advanced performance spectrum analyser unveiled at electronica 2000

24 January 2001 Test & Measurement

At electronica 2000 Agilent Technologies launched the Agilent E4440A performance spectrum analyser, which was designed to meet both general-purpose and highly specialised signal analysis needs. The E4440A's advanced digital technology underscores Agilent's leadership in R&D products and services that product developers can rely on for consistent and accurate simulation, measurement and support.

The E4440A is the first in the Agilent PSA series of high-performance spectrum analysers, which measure and monitor complex RF and microwave signals in aerospace/defense, wireless communications and other high-frequency designs. The products in this series will meet designers' needs for increased accuracy, dynamic range, sensitivity, resolution and speed.

"Great measurements require more than just great specifications," said Helen Chen, R&D Project Manager at Agilent's Signal Analysis Product Generation Unit. "The Agilent E4440A makes benchmark measurements easily and allows users to optimise measurements to a level never before possible. It accelerates time-to-insight, decreases the time needed to prove the quality of a design and helps engineers get it right the first time."

The PSA provides technological advances in the following areas:

* Performance and speed - 1 ms sweep speeds, 0,3 dB absolute amplitude accuracy, 0,1 dB linearity over a 100 dB range, 113 dB distortion-free dynamic range, and sensitivity of -153 dBm. This combination of speed and performance allows designers to characterise signals they couldn't even 'see' before and to make quicker and more accurate measurements than in the past.

* Flexibility - customisable measurements for both the novice and the expert. Users can fine tune with 160 resolution bandwidth settings, maximise usable dynamic range using a 2 dB step attenuator, and balance close-in or far-out phase noise.

* Connectivity - screen and data capture to Microsoft applications, LAN-enabled connectivity and data transfer, plug-&-play drivers for Agilent VEE and other popular test automation software, such as LabView and LabWindows. With easy connectivity, users do not waste time getting data into and out of the test equipment.

The Agilent PSA series E4440A performance spectrum analyser with 30 Hz to 26,5 GHz range is also part of Agilent's Test & Measurement trade-up program. Contact the agent for details.
