Ceiborg Data Storage has introduced what it says is a low cost solution for huge data storage on standard disks, that will never be altered by viruses or electric failures.
This powerful backup and archiving system creates secure and well-organised data backups on standard CD or DVD, ranging from 700 MB to the latest 50 GB blu-ray disks. The system consists of an automatic handler for 100 disks with a CD/DVD drive and printer. It connects to a computer or network by USB 2.0 interface. Advanced software is included with the system.
The system creates one or multiple copies of your files and preserves them unaltered, for as long as a hundred years, at a very reduced cost, says the company. The printer is used to identify the disks, which adds a feature that is not available in magnetic media recording or jukeboxes. Unattended operation is a unique feature as the operator does not need to change disks or tapes or manually write the identification.
Notably, the recovery of stored data does not require special software or even the Ceiborg system to do it. Data may be recovered from any computer. A detailed catalogue of all the recorded sessions is stored together with the files. The same system can be used for archiving data on non-changeable media. This enables companies to comply with government regulations. Other uses are, for eg, backups in different locations, duplication of disks for software production, data storage of images etc.
