Actum Electronics is now offering dissipative desiccant bags for packaging of electronic goods. These desiccant bags, developed for customers in the electronics field of application, are intended to be used in EPAs (electrostatic protected areas), or where electrostatic discharges may cause damage to the electronic devices.
An ESD safe coating is added to the fabric of the bag containing the dessicant with a coating machine, resulting in a fully electrostatic charge dissipating desiccant bag. These bags have been tested by the relevant European institutes and have been approved as ESD-safe for EPA areas (IEC 61340-5-1).
In general, a dissipative device should have a surface resistance under 10 to 12 Ω and a charge decay time under 2 seconds. This means that no electrostatic charges remain once grounded.
