Sine wave solar inverter also functions as UPS

4 April 2007 Power Electronics / Power Management

Mean Well has launched a DC/AC power inverter with UPS and solar charging function. The new TN-1500 series targets the renewal energy market. The true sine wave inverter can provide 1500 W continuously, 1725 W surge power for 3 minutes, or 2250 W for 10 seconds to all types of harsh loads with low distortion (THD <3%).

Not only is this a powerful inverter, with the built-in AC charger and solar charger, but Mean Well says that the TN-1500 series can also implement a UPS system by adding external battery banks and solar panels. The AC utility input can charge the batteries and also bypass to the output side (if solar panels are assembled on the system), a 'bonus energy source' of free solar energy. This power can be also stored in the battery bank. Controlled by a microprocessor, the TN-1500 series controls the output AC voltage and frequency for various applications. A 'saving mode' function can also be selected through the front panel to save battery energy.

This unit is fully protected: has battery low alarm, low shutdown, polarity, over-voltage protection for input side, while short circuit, inverter overload, internal fuses, over temperature protection, output AC line circuit breaker, etc. It complies with global safety and EMC certificates and is suitable for powering home appliances, power tools, vehicles, yachts, office and portable equipment, etc.
