SAEEC opens new Midrand offices

18 April 2007 News

The South African Electrotechnical Export Council celebrated the opening of its new premises in Coventry Park in Midrand on 14 March. The Council is a not-for-gain organisation, public-private partnership between business and the Department of Trade and Industry to drive electrotechnical exports.

Mandla Kuzwayo, the chairman, gave a potted history of the Council and considering that it was founded in 2000 with 22 members, one laptop and a rented office, it has come a long way - thanks to the support of all its members and the DTI. Eileen Leopold, CEO, said that the SAEEC has 76 member companies of which 70% are SMEs.

"We facilitate participation in 5-7 international trade missions and six exhibitions annually, the last missions being to India and the Middle East in February," she explains. "We have developed a branding position for the South African electrotechnical sector which is promoted via DTI, the Embassies and International Marketing Council and has undertaken extensive collaborative research on selected sub-sectors."

Leipold says that the SAEEC works closely with the African Development Bank and WorldBank to identify and facilitate participation in projects, particularly in Africa.

"The Council is proud to be associated with other industry players and in particular, Dataweek, in the development of this sector. We trust that everyone enjoyed the opening event and we look forward to continued export growth of our members," she concluded.

Companies interested in exporting can contact Adele Visser of the The South African Electrotechnical Export Council, +27 (0)11 315 0209, fax 086 661 1327, [email protected], or see www.saeec.org.za
