austriamicrosystems' AS5140H 10-bit magnetic rotary encoder IC is fully automotive-qualified to AEC-Q100 and designed to operate in an ambient temperature range up to 150°C. With a resolution of 0,35°, it can recognise 1024 positions within one 360° turn, read by either a serial or a PWM interface. In addition, there are three differently programmable incremental outputs available. Other features, including user-specific zero programming, a diagnostic function for correct positioning of the magnet, and the ability to recognise power interruptions, are standard as in austriamicrosystems' existing encoder family. In addition, a 'daisy chain' mode has been added in the AS5140H, allowing position data to be read serially over a two-wire bus. The chip operates at either 3,3 V or 5 V and is available in a lead-free SSOP-16 package.
