200 A relay now in energy-efficient range

2 May 2007 Switches, Relays & Keypads

Omron has extended its family of energy-efficient DC power relays, extending their switching capacity and adding super-compact, low cost models.

Omron's existing compact G9EA relays have raised the bar for efficiency and noise reduction in applications from electric and hybrid vehicles to power distribution and industrial equipment. Now they are joined by the G9EC, which can carry and switch loads up to 400 V, 200 A, and the small and light G9EB.

The G9EC's switching section and driving section are hermetically sealed and gas injected, providing the capacity to interrupt a maximum of 1000 A at 400 V d.c. The sealed construction means that no space is required to accommodate arcing; it also saves space and helps to ensure safe applications. Dimensions are a compact 98 x 44 x 86,7 mm (LxWxH).

The new G9EB relays are the industry's smallest and lightest models in the 400 V d.c., 25 A class, according to Omron. At 25 x 60 x 58 mm in size and weighing-in at 135 g, they are around half the volume and a third the mass of the nearest equivalent, claims the manufacturer.

Both new relays are offered in SPST-NO contact form. The high-capacity G9EC is available in screw-terminal and lead-wire coil terminal versions, and carries UL/CSA approval to UL508 standards. They benefit from extended temperature operations: the G9EC from -40 to 50°C and the G9EB up to 70°C.
