DIN connectors redesigned

16 May 2007 Interconnection Information Security

Erni is introducing a new design to its female DIN connectors, which it says has certain advantages compared to the old manufacturing process. These include: reduction of press-in force by approx. 25% compared to the old version, using the new ‘Eye of the Needle’ pressfit zone.

This leads to lesser strain towards the PCB, enabling higher tolerances for an easier manufacturing process; High process security, as all connectors are 100% visually surveyed, to ensure the pin's functionality; partial loading is possible; various pin lengths in any configuration realisable.

The available termination lengths: solder: 2,5 mm; 3,7 mm; 4,0 mm; 13,0 mm; 17,0 mm; Pressfit: 2,9 mm; 4,0 mm; 5,5 mm; 13,0 mm.

The insulation bodies have not changed. There is a fixation clip or retaining loop in all positions selectable for efficient mounting of the connector when soldering. The solder stop versions for type B and C connectors are available on request, preventing a rising of the solder up into the housing. A simple coding mechanism, by using coding strips, is standard on all B, C, E and CD connectors, while the THR versions are made of a high temperature resistant material which makes them suitable for reflow soldering.
