Westcode Semiconductors, an IXYS subsidiary, has launched a new 600 V thyristor range. These thyristors are encapsulated in Westcode's innovative low profile Wespack housings. Four current ratings are available from 2154 to 6974 A.
Frank Wakeman, marketing and evaluation manager at Westcode Semiconductors, commented, "These 600 V thyristors use a newly introduced technology developed specifically to optimise the requirements of 600 V thyristors. This dedicated process results in the lowest possible forward drop at the full rated current. In combination with the unique Wespack outline, the design offers maximum current rating and lowest thermal resistance for weight and volume, without compromising on quality and reliability.
"A Wespack phase control thyristor offers a cost effective space and weight saving alternative to conventional designs thus reducing system-size weight and cost," he said.
The Wespack thyristor package is only 14 mm thick, optimising the thermal path from silicon to cooling system. The hermetic ceramic package is suitable for all cooling options including forced air, liquid, plus total immersion systems such as oil and fluoro-inert. The lower profile of the package allows for a much more compact subassembly increasing realisable power for a given volume and weight.
Typical applications include welding, chemical power supplies, battery powered systems, and all low voltage rectification requirements.
