30 W transformer for LED lighting

13 June 2007 Opto-Electronics

Mean Well is offering another new product series for LED lighting purposes. The PLN-30 series is a 30 W AC/DC enclosed type switching power supply with active PFC function.

These limited power sources comply with UL 1310 class 2 that under any situation, the output power is less than 100 VA or 5 A. This significantly reduces the hazardous conditions exposed to technicians who perform maintenance of the LED lighting system.

The IP64 enclosure design can protect the electronic components against dust and moisture, making them useful for indoor or outdoor locations.

Thanks to a simplified single stage PFC topology, the required high power factor as well as the class C harmonic level for the lighting industry can be economically achieved. Efficiency of PLN-30 series is as high as 86% and so can operate between -30 to 50°C with only free air convection inside the fully covered plastic enclosure.

Standard functions include short circuit, overload, over voltage, and over temperature protections. Also, the adjustable output voltage and current level enables fine tuning of the PSU to comply with LED characteristics.

Typical applications for these new Class 2 power units include small scale moving signs, back-lighting, LED-based decorative/architectural lighting, LED stage and theatre lighting, and LED electronic displays.
