Dual-edge, multiphase buck controllers

ON Semiconductor's new NCP5387 and NCP5382 multiphase buck controllers address power needs for servers and for VR10.x, VR.11.0 and Parallel VID-based desktop personal computers. The devices combine differential voltage and current sensing, and adaptive voltage positioning. Dual-edge pulse width modulation, combined with inductor current sensing, reduces system cost by providing fast initial response to transient load events. A high performance operational error amplifier is provided, which allows easy compensation of the system. The proprietary method of Dynamic Reference Injection makes the error amplifier compensation virtually independent of the system response to VID changes, eliminating tradeoffs between overshoot and dynamic VID performance. The NCP5387 is a two, three, or four phase controller, suitable for VR10.x, VR11.0, and Parallel VID desktop computing systems, and is available in a Pb-free QFN-40 package. The NCP5382 is a four, five, or six phase controller, suitable for servers and other low-voltage, high-current power supplies, and is available in a Pb-free QFN-48 package.
