Function/arbitrary waveform generator

14 February 2001 Test & Measurement

Agilent Technologies' 33250A is an 80 MHz, function/arbitrary waveform generator with pulse capability claimed to offer nearly twice the bandwidth of competing products in its price range. Designed for use on the benchtop or in test systems by R&D and manufacturing engineers, the Agilent 33250A has a rich feature set that makes it suitable for application in the areas of electronic design, electromechanical systems and electronics manufacturing.

Engineers can use the 33250A to generate standard waveforms from sine and square to ramp and sawtooth for circuit testing, design verification and waveform simulation. The generator's direct digital synthesis techniques allow users to create a stable, accurate output on all waveforms down to 1 µHz frequency resolution. Engineers can also produce custom arbitrary waveforms with a 200 MSa/s sample rate, 12 bits of vertical resolution and a waveform memory depth of 64K points. The 33250A's 'built in' sweep, burst, modulation and external clock reference adds to the product's value and versatility, as does its ability to leverage variable edge time and pulse width to generate simple pulses up to 50 MHz.

Other features that add value to the Agilent 33250A include:

* A user-friendly front panel that allows frequency, amplitude and offset adjustments with either a knob or numeric keypad and the ability to enter voltage values directly in Vpp, Vrms, dBm or high and low levels and timing parameters in hertz or seconds.

* A high-resolution colour graphical display for viewing multiple parameters concurrently, allowing users to modify waveforms more quickly and easily than ever.

* A TCXO timebase which provides a frequency accuracy rate of 1 ppm per year for demanding applications.

* A built-in help system that considerably reduces the learning curve.

* GPIB and RS232 interfaces are standard with full programmability using SCPI programming commands.
