At electronica Clare launched the MXED101, a new column driver with 192 output channels designed for use as an OLED (organic LED) display driver. It can also be used to drive other types of flat panel display applications that require similar parameters.
The 192 OLED driver outputs are arranged as three interdigitised banks (A, B and C) of 64 outputs each, corresponding to a three-colour display. Each of the 192 outputs acts as current sources, sourcing current from the high voltage supply into the anodes of a column of OLEDs in the display. The individual OLED in that column that is tied to ground by a row switch matrix will turn on. The current amplitude of the A, B and C banks can be individually set. This controls the relative brightness of the three colours as well as the overall brightness of the display. The length of time the output is held on can be individually controlled for each of the 192 outputs. This controls the relative brightness of individual OLEDs in a given bank. The 192 outputs are laid out in a row on one side of the die with a pitch of 92 microns, facilitating easy interface to the display.
