XP Power has released its new ECL series of ultra compact, low power AC/DC power supplies. Two series are available in the range, the 10 W ECL10 and the 15 W ECL15. Both supplies are available in three mechanical formats: open frame PCB mount, encapsulated PCB mount and open frame chassis mount.
The ECL10 open frame PCB mount unit measures just 25,4 x 50,8 x 22,8 mm (1,0 x 2,0 x 0,9 inches), claimed to be the world's smallest 10 W a.c./d.c. power supply in this type of package, and has a power density of 0,34 W per cubic centimetre. The ECL series is ideal for low-cost, low-power applications where space is at a premium.
The ECL10 and ECL15 are available with single output voltages of 3,3, 5, 9, 12, 15, 24 and 48 V d.c. Full power is supplied across the whole input voltage range of 85-264 V a.c. or 120-370 V d.c. The units operate across the temperature range from -20°C to +70°C, with derating required above 50°C. The units operate at full power with convection cooling so there is no need for additional thermal components or fan cooling.
The peak load capability of the supplies is 130% of nominal, for up to 30 seconds. The supplies are suitable for use in both Class I and II isolation systems, meaning they can be used with or without an earth connection. This makes them ideal for portable equipment or where a reliable ground source is not available. External filtering is not required since the power supplies meet EN55022, level B for conducted and radiated EMC.
