STMicroelectronics has released a new version of its successful 32-bit ARM9-based STR910F Flash microcontrollers. Through technology enhancements, the new STR910FA delivers 25% greater system performance at a more competitive price.
The enhanced memory accelerator in the new STR910FA boosts performance by allowing the burst Flash memory to stream instructions more freely to its ARM966E CPU core. Peak performance remains the same, at 96 million instructions per second (MIPS) during the execution of sequential instructions, but the average performance has increased significantly when instructions are non-sequential, as a result of the larger memory accelerator.
Six additional members have been added to the family, offering more memory size combinations, plus tiny new BGA144 packages measuring only 10 x 10 mm.
The STR910FA MCU series offers Flash memory up to 544 KB and SRAM up to 96 KB with a full set of peripherals that include an Ethernet MAC, USB, CAN, three UARTs/IrDAs, two SPIs, two I³Cs, eight channel 10-bit ADC with 0,7 microsecond conversion, four 16-bit timers, a 3-phase AC motor-control unit, complete supervisor functions with Low Voltage Reset and Brown-out Detect, a full-featured realtime clock consuming just 1 μA, an external memory interface, an ETM9 debug and trace interface, and up to 80 5 V-tolerant I/O. All devices operate between -40 and +85°C.

The end of ‘entry-level’: STMicroelectronics’ STM32C5 sets a new baseline for embedded systems
DSP, Micros & Memory
[Sponsored] Instead of incrementally improving legacy Cortex-M0+ architectures, STM32C5 introduces a Cortex-M33-based platform into the entry-level category. This changes not only performance expectations, but also how engineers approach system architecture, consolidation, and long-term scalability.
