Modular multipole surge arresters

31 October 2007 Circuit & System Protection

Dehn's modular DEHNguard M range of Type 2 multipole surge arresters are designed to protect low-voltage installations against surges and are energy-coordinated within Dehn's Red/Line family. The completely pre-wired units consist of a base part and plug-in protection module. The protection devices are used according to the lightning protection zones concept at boundaries 0B - 1 and higher. The modules have a 40 kA (8/20 μs) maximum discharge current with a ≤25 ns response time. They are housed in red thermoplastic and meet IP 20 protection requirements.

The DEHNguard M units feature a high discharge capacity due to powerful zinc oxide varistors/spark gaps and ensure high safety due to their 'thermo dynamic control' SPD monitoring device. Multifunctional terminals provide connection for conductors and busbars. The protection modules are easily exchanged by simply pressing the module release button and they are easily identified by individual coding.

The system implements monitoring of the neutral module, which is a requirement for maintenance purposes. Various models are available for TN-C, TN-S, TT and TN-S, 230 V TN, 230 V TT and TN systems and the DEHNguard M - FM modules have a three-pole terminal for remote signalling.
