Mean Well has launched a 30 W a.c.-d.c. enclosed type switching power supply designed specifically to power LED lighting systems. Targeting economical lighting applications, the ELN-30 has a non-power-factor-corrected design to keep its cost low, but still complies with the requirements of UL 1310 class 2.
The output power of these power sources is maintained at less than 100 VA or 5 A under any situation, which can significantly reduce the hazardous conditions that technicians involved in the construction or maintenance of the LED lighting system are exposed to. The IP64 rating of the fully enclosed plastic case also protects the electronic components against dust and moisture, making the power sources suitable for use in harsh environments.
The efficiency of the ELN-30 is as high as 87%, allowing it to operate between -20 and +60°C using free air convection only. Standard functions include adjustable output voltage/current level and short-circuit, overload, and over-voltage protection. Dimming control via a 1-10 V or PWM signal is also available as an optional function for users who want to adjust the brightness of LEDs using external control signals.
Typical applications for these new Class 2 power units include moving signs and backlighting, LED-based decorative/architectural lighting, LED stage and theatre lighting, and LED electronic displays.
