Murata’s surface mount pyroelectric infrared (PIR) movement sensor is now available in a surface mount package that is both smaller and lower cost than its through-hole counterpart. The IRS-A200ST01-R1 is constructed with H shaped electrodes, as is the through-hole version, the IRA-E700ST. Measuring just 5,7 by 6,7 mm and 2,6 mm in profile, the board area occupied by the device is now less than 60% of that required by through-hole equivalents. Height has also been reduced to approximately 55% of that of the through-hole version, enabling the sensor to be used in thin-model or low-height electronic devices and equipment. These sensors offer high sensitivity and SNR, excellent stability against temperature changes and white light, and enhanced RFI immunity. A range of lenses is offered to suit different applications. Standard lenses are available for installation with the surface mount devices to give either a 3 to 5 m or a 5 to 7 m sensing distance. For special applications, a smaller lens design can provide a sensing distance of 10 to 12 m.
