'World's thinnest' high-brightness chip-LED

19 March 2008 Opto-Electronics

Seoul Semiconductor has launched what it claims to be the world’s thinnest chip-LED at 0,17 mm, capable of producing more than two times the brightness of existing chip-LEDs.

The new WH108, available in white, blue and green, measures 1,6 mm in width, 0,8mm in length and 0,17 mm in height, and delivers luminous intensity of 240 mcd at a current of 5 mA. The LED’s ultra-thin package and high brightness make it suitable for use in applications for keypad modules and touch pads, where its low power consumption will also help to extend battery life in portable devices.

The WH108 has enhanced thermal characteristic, meaning it can withstand and perform reliably in demanding environments such as small enclosed lights, special devices such as endoscope illumination and automobile dashboard lighting.
